Herbert, who went Home, from Melbourne t'o receive a legacy and niurdered his wife's sister, has been hanged. Boyd, of Newcastle, has challenged Hanlon, in terms of the championship race, to row a match for. ; L2OQ a-side. Hanlon has accepted, and proposes that the race shall take place at the end of January. It is Boyd's wish to meet him in sis weeks later. The time is at present unfixed. It is doubtful also whether it will take place on the Thames or Tyne, December 16. A Protestant Church at Ballenahinch has been forcibly entered and completely wrecked. Battalions of the Scots' Guards and Rifle Brigade are ordered to Jreland. All the army furloughs have been cancelled in that portion of the Kingdom. An assussin attempted to murder Brataino, the Prime Minister of Roumania.' The attack . resulted in the intended victim being slightly wounded, .and his assailant arrested.
The proposed new line of mail steamers for Australia, under the auspices of the French Government, will be ready in fc«'o years. At first it will fee monthly, then fortnightly.
