HARBOR BOARD.
The usual fortnightly meeting of the Board was held to-day, when there were presentMessrs. Sumpter (Chairman), Aitken, Duncan, Gibbs, and Hassell. The Standing Committee reported having taken steps to obtain water from the Corporation for the works, and the following jettsr with reference to the matter was read froin the Town (Jlerk - Sir, —In reply to your letter of the 6th ultimo, I have to inform you that your application on behalf of the Harbor Board has granted ; the charge for water supply to be Is 3d per JOOO gallons, tjie Board to supply the 2-inch qpryicp pipe and to provide meter.

The Secretary remarkod that a meter would have to be procured. A 1 meter would cost L 6, and a 2 meter would cost Ll2.—lt was resolved that a 2 meter be procured. • ■ 'ilie formal appointment pf a pilot wag mjid.e, sp that oii the pilotage rat ( eg cpming into force in the beginning of the year Mr. Shand wohW be in a position to enfprce the bye-laws, It was resolved that the next meeting of the Board be held on the date of tlje annual meeting, the 4th of January. The Secretary stated that the Engineer was of opinion that, to avoid delay, in the delivery of cement; the question of a further ppntreet be considered at an early date. The last shipment qf the jjreseijt pontract would arrive in April; ' ■■ "■ The following letter was read from the Traffic Manager's office, Dunedin : .Sir,—lt iq reported that, in consequence of tlje operation's of the Hapbpr Bpard contractors p.p Oamaru, th.e traffic road has been blocked, and all communication between the town and the wharf- must pn,as along. the railway line. I have the honor to inform you that the department strongly deprecates the course adopted in stopping traffic along the public road, and I shall be glad if you will make arrangements to have it re-opened sis soon as possible to minimise t}]Q risk pf accjdent through persons improperly using the line as a thoroughfare. The Secretary was instructed to liaye a patli made to enable the public to pass from the upper road to the wharves. ■ Mr. Gibbs called the Board's attention to the fact that additions were about to be made to the present railway station. He did pot know if it was the intention of the Govevameut to fhp present site the permanent one; but if t'h'js was the <jasp it would seriously interfore with til a Board s operations in the future, and he thought it was a matter that it would be well for the Bpard to consider. He dwelt at some length uypn the reasons for having the site re-' moved tp tjje from Corporation and Bgibor itiqafd pointg of view, especially the advantage to be derived by the filling up of the lagoon, and the removal of the Gasworks to a lower site.
The members of the Board thought that there was nothing before them to warrant tljeir interfering, but it was eventually resolved, "Tijat in order that the Board may be able to decide how to" deal witji it,-j present unused land, particularly as to the lagoon piece, a letter be addressed to the Minister for Public Works asking whether he is in a position tp state definitely what decision t{i,e (3qvpptjment lias come to as tg the new railway sfcaiicjif site.-'' The Board then rose.
