Thane of Clyd*, bred by Thomas Young, E:q., Renfrewshire, Sootlaad. Be. took several first prizes in Scotland when iwo and three years old. His dam was the celebrated mare Matchless, never beatea in her day. He also gained the first prize, against all comers, at the Southland Agricultural and Pastoral Sooietyjs Show in 1867, being there for the first time shown in New Zealand. The following year he gained the Gold Medal at the Tokomairiro Agricultural .and Pastoral Society' 3 Grand Show, and was reckoned by competent judges to he the best bred horse in Otago; also, the Gold Medal at the Clutba. . Scotland Yet gained second prize at the Southland Agricultural ' and Pastoral Socety's Show in 1877; aid Ja 1878 he gained the same Society's first prize, beating a field- of seven, asd he was admitted by the judges on that occasion to bei the beat colt bred from the Prinoe of Wales, Terms—Single Marea, £5; payable oa or before Ist February, 1881.
