BANKERS & LAWYERS Y. OAMARU C.C.

A match was played yesterday afternoon between an eleven representing the Bankers and Lawyers of Oamaru and an equal number of members of the Oamaru Club, resulting in an easy victory for the latter. The teams were captained by Messrs. Fenwickand Sumpter respectively. The Club team went first to the wickets and put together the highly respectable total of 126. Of this number Gilly, by sterling cricket, made 49 not out, not giving a chance during his innings. Cooke also played very well indeed for 35, and Sumpter made 12 before being neatly caught in the slips. The fielding of the Bankers and Lawyers was highly creditable, and Fenwick bowled well. The Bankers and Lawyers cut but a sorry figure at the wickets on the first attempt, Fenwick being the only player who could do anything against the bowling. Cooke was especially deadly, and was credited with seven wickets. Finch also bowled very well, and the fielding was good. Being so far behind, the Bankers and Lawyers followed on, and were more successful, totalling up 90 runs before being disposed of. Balmer headed the list with 33, while Fenwick, Will, and Church also ran into double figures. Sumpter obtained five wickets by slows. The match was thus won by the Club by an innings and 11 runs.
