PALMERSTON.
(FROM our own correspondent.) Paimerston, November 3. It is my painful duty to record a sad accident which happened last evening to F., D. Rich, Esq., of Bushy Park and his lady. They were on their way home from Paimerston to the Park, Mr. Rich having just returned from the North Island. They were driving in a buggy accompanied by their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Spencer. Shortly after leaving Paimerston, one of the wheels of the buggy came off, throwing the occupants to the ground, excepting Mrs. Rich, who by some means got entangled in the buggy and was dragged a distance of over 200 yards before the horse was stopped by Mr. Spencer. It was a miracle she was not killed on the spot, but fortunately the horse kept to the grass on the side of the road, and this no doubt probably saved her. The news having been conveyed to Paimerston, Dr. Brown was immediately at the scene of the accident, and at once ordered Mrs. Rich's removal to her house, where, on examination, I believe, the doctor found n.o bones broken, although shg is ba,dly bruised, and what is feared is that she is injured internally. She was in a very low state last night. Mr. Rich is also badly bruised about the legs and arm and has received a severe shaking. Mr. and Mrs. Spencer fortunately escaped uninjured. The affair has cast quite a gloom over the town, Mr. and Mrs. Rich being both universally respegted in the neighborhood.
(by telegraph.) Palmerston, November 4. I have just heard that Mrs. Rich has received some internal injury through the buggy accident, an account of whic I sent you this morning. Although the doctor does not anticipate any fatal results, Mr. and lira, Rich will be confined to their beds for some time.
