Kate, out of old Gipsy, by Prince Charlie (imported). Jean, as a 2-year-old was placed first at the Taieri and first at Dunedin ; as a 3-year-old took first at the Taieri and second at Tokomairiro. Jean's dam, Kate, as a 2-year-old secured second at Taieri and first at Dunedin; as a 3-year-old was first at Taieri and first at Dunedin, while the following year she not only took first as the best brood mare, but was awarded the Champion Cup, presented by Messrs. PEDIGREE, Scotland Yet is rising four years old, and stands 16J bauds high. He is a rich dark bay, with capital short hairy legs, and four biack points. He possesses good sound feet—a very important requisite in a sire tor producing draught stock. He is short in the back, well ribbed-up, with good quarters and splendid action. He has proved a sure foal-getter, and is a splendid worker. Bi'ed by Mr. James Burgess, Southland. S;re, ¥oung Prince of Wales, by Drew's Prince of Wale 3, by General, by sir Walter Scott, by Old Clyde, by Scotland, by Champion, which takes us fully fifty years back amongst the grand old sires of "Clydesdale blood m Scotland. Scotland Yet's dam was bred by Mr. A. Steele, whioh was got by the well-known Thane of Clyde, imported by Hugh M'Lean, Esq., of Benmore. Thane of Clyde, bred by Thomas Young, Esq., Renfrewshire, Scotland. He took several first prizes in Scotland when two and three years old. His dam was the celebrated mare Matchless, never beaten in her day. He also gained the first prize, against all comers, at the Southland Agricultural and Pastoral Society's Show in 1567, being there for the first time shown in New Zealand. The following year he gained the Gold Medal at the Tokomairiro Agricultural aud Pastoral Grand Bhow, and was reckoned by competent judges to be the best bred horse in Otago; also, the Gold Medal at the Clutha, Scotland Yet gained second prize at the Southland Agricultural and Pastoral Soc ety's Show in 1577; aid in 1878 he gained the same Society's first prize, beating a field of seven, and he was admitted by the judges on that occasion to be the beat colt bred from the Prinoe of Wales, Terms—Single Mares, £5; payable on or before Ist February, 1881.
