The following is a list of the inspectors of the police force, together with the dates of their appointment, to whom notipe has been sent offering the alternative either of submitting to a reduction or leaving the service with the usual compensation allowance : —lnspector Moore, Ist July, 1873; Inspector Thompson, Ist July, 1873 ; Inspector Fox, Ist July, 1573 ; Inspector Mallard, 23rd January, 1875 ; Inspector Kiely, 7th May, 1875; Inspector Feast, 28th June, .1875. There were five other inspectors whose names were originally mentioned for reduction, but who will not be interfered with. The following is a list of those officers',-.with their dates of appointment:— Inspector Pender, 11th May, 1864; Inspector Buckley, 4.st July, 186(5; Inspector Scully, 2nd December, I§6s; Inspector Emerson, Ist July, 1868; Inspector Hickson, 20th August, 1872. The following is a list of sub-inspectors marked for reduction, with their respective dates of appointments : Sub-Inspector Kenny, 9th June, 1869 : Sq.brlnspectof Buljen, March, 1870; Sub-Inspector O'Donngll, 10th September, 1872 ; Sub-Inspector Goodall, 18th June, 1373; Sub-Inspector Pardy, 17th November, 1875; SubInspector Smith, Ist May, 1877:
It is understood that the West Coast Commissioners, Sir Win. Fox and Sir ■Dillon Bell, will meet Ministers about the end of the month to confer with them on West Coast matters.

The scraping of the top plates from the Golden Fleece Quartz Mining Company, Reefton, showed, as the result of five days' crushing, 374 ozs. amalgam. There are 3 feet of stone in the rise above No. 4 level, which looks well for the stone going to the surface.
