CRICKET.
EXCELSIOR C.C. V. 0 AMARU C.C. This match, which had been looked forward to with a great deal of interest, was commenced on Saturday afternoon, on,the ground of the Oamaru Club. The weather was not favorable for cricket, the day being cold and cloudy. There was a good attendance of spectators, including a number of ladies. Mr. G. Fen wick captained the Excelsiors, and Mr. G. Millington did like dut3' for the .Oamaruvians. The latter having won the toss, decided to. take the field, and Messrs. Oreagh a.nd Snow were the to. $o battle for the junior club. Gyeagh took the first over from G. Millington, and off the second ball a warm chance was given to J. Millington at long-leg, which was declined, two runs resulting. The next ball, however, found its way to Crease's leg atump, an 4 he was succeeded by D. Moore, who fell a victim to a bailer from Denton without scoring. Hartley, Finch, and Marshall were quickly disposed of for nil. T. Hewat scored three, and was succeeded by Cooke, who was expected to make a stand; but after placing three to his credit, lie was caught by Hardy off Denton. His place was filled by Holmes, and after three singles had been added to the score, Snow was bowled off hia legs for a carefully compiled !}.§. G. Fenwick was dijsppsed ftf without troubling the scorers, and his • place was filled by M'Donald, last man, who put together five runs before being dismissed by a shooter from Millington. Holmes carried out his bat for three. The innings closed for the very small total of 39. Q. Milling, ton bowled very well indeed, taking seven wickets for ten runs. The Excelsiors then took the field, and Messrs. Sumpter and •Will faced the bowling of Cooke and T. Hewat. Sumpter, after playing carefully for six, was bowled by a trimmer from Hewat. Denton followed, but was soon got rid of, having placed his leg where his bat ought to have been. Hardy came next, but succumbed to a good one fro\xv Cooke. Will and Nicalla fejl to.Qo.oke for. six find five respectively. Walls and Jf. Millingtpn thon got together, a;nd made | in jitters lively for a time, whiph caused a pharige to be jfvade in the bowling, Finch going on in plage of Cooke, The change pame off, as Walls, after scoring twenty by vigorous play, was bowled by.. Finch, and J. Millington .was canght by Moore at jong-off of? the same bawler for a well, played sixteen; - De lia'utour and Church filled the vacanoies,' but neither succeeded iri scoring. When. time was called,,, the . score stood at at 65 for nine wickets, Messrs. G; Millington and Lintott being
