KAKANUI ROAD BOARD.
j The monthly meeting of this Board was held yesterday afternoon, when there were present—Messrs. J. C. Gilchrist (in the chair), Booth, Aikenhead, Morton, Elder, Walker, Stevenson, Hedlev, Thomson, Holmes, and M'Donald. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed, and the outward correspondence read and approve^, A letter was read from the Clerk to the Waifcalu County Council, intimating that the Council had confirmed the deoision of the ratepayers to cloae road lines in block 10, Qamaru district, and stating that the Council decline to take over the bridge and approaches at Kakanui Mouth. It was resolved that public notice be given, in accordance with the provisions of the Public Works Act, that the road lines referred to have. oeaaed to become public highways ; and that, in reference to Kakanui bridge, the Chairman, with Messrs. Holmes and Hedley, wait as a deputation on the County Council at next meeting to urge "a re-consideration of the matter. A letter from Messrs. Kenyon and Hosking having been read, with reference to an exchange of road lines in South Oamaru, it was decided to make application for issue of Crown grant for closed road in that township in favor of Mr. Fairfax Fenwick. , \
Mr. T. Brydone wrote on behalf of the New Zealand and Ausfcrali.au Land Company, stating that an error had been committed in placing the road-line to the Totara railway station on the wrong side of the fence; and requesting that the Board accept the line as surveyed in lieu of the original road-line. The Board's Engineer reported recommending the adoption of the line offered by Mr. Brydone. It was resolved, " That the exchange be sanctioned, the Company to pay cost of conveyance ; and that plans and specifications be prepared and tenders called for formation of the road-line. A letter was read from the Public Works Department, calling the attention of the Board to the Public Works Act, 1880, which came into force on Ist September last, relative to stoppage, exchange, or sale of roads. A letter having been read from the Otepopo Road Board announcing its determination to withdraw from the agreement in regard to engineering on the 9fch and 10th. December next, it was resolved to reply pointing out that, under the terms of sealed agreement, six months' notice must be given to each of the associated boards and to the engineers, before departure frQtn terms of agree- j ment. | The Engineers submitted the surveys of road-lines exchanged with Mr. Elder, and it was resolved, "That the solieitors be instructed to prepare transfers, and that application be subsequently made for issue of Crown grants for portions closed in favor of Mr, Elder." It w&a dsoided that the Board should at the next meeting levy a general rat© of 4d in the £ on rateable property within the district. The Engineers were instructed to have a culvert or crossing constructed on roadline between sections 29 and 1 of 30, block Oaniaru district provided Mr. Sha,w cart the stones to the ground. The Engineers were directed to peg off road-line in sections 25 and 26, block 10, Oamaru distriot, and to report on proposed deviation of road through sections 26 and 27 of same block. Accounts to the amount of L3Q7 5s 7d were passed for payment, and the Board rose.
