The district itf isr* ther intersected. by railways, which open up t the great valleys of Aparima, Oreti, and Matanra Rirers; while a loop line from the luvrcargill to Kingston Railway at Lumsdem runs through the W#es Plains and joins the Invercargill to Danedia maip hne at Gore, and a line through the Forest Hill District will be constructed Bhortly. Thus carriage of produce to the seaboardor racket is easy and cheap from any part ot it; and timber, Ikae, af?4 coal, can be distributed all over the country gfc a minimum cost. It may be remarked that Invercargill being situated close toFoveaux Straits is exposed to mora rainfall and sudden changes than the interior of the district, only geyen miles due north, where the climate is both drier and warmer, tnt along the whole seaboard the land is extremely fertile, and much priced for grass and root crops.
