PIGEON MATCH.

A correspondent kindly supplies us with the following :—A very interesting pigeon match took place at the Boundary Creek Hotel on Friday. It was the more interesting because it was a handicap sweep, in which respect it was a great improvement on former matches. After partaking of a substantial lunch, an adjournment was made to the paddock in front of the hotel, where the competitors essayed to try conclusions. It was then decided to handicap Messrs. G. Dennison and Wm, XJarpisoa two yards, and that the winner of a sweep should be handicapped one yard for each win, and those that missed their birds to get a yard in advance. There was a stiff breeze from the north-east blowing across the line of the firing, which told greatly in favor of the birds, as they seemed to go like " greased lightning" with a fair wind, and a good many esQaped with the loss of a few feathers* froja their tails, and some of the old veteran shots failed to make allowance for lee-way. It is to be regretted that there were so few competitors from the south of Oamaru, as I think a few meetings like this would tend to enliven this good old English sport. The Northerners are talking of .arranging a challenge between the and South, and the Plain meu seem to . think so highly of themselves that they will even give the Southerners the Oamaru men to boot, I append the results : Sweep No. I.—G. Dennison, 1; Thos. Duncan, 2 ; P. Croft, 3. Sweep No. 2.—Thos. Eyanean, 1; W. Dennison, 2 ; A. Eraser, 3. Sweep No. S, —Thos. Duncan and W, Harrison, divided Ist and 2nd ; G, Dennison, 3. Consolation.—T. 1 jH. S.chluter, 2 ; R. Smartj §,
