OAMARU SNUBBED.

Axd yet another snub for Oamaru. We are told by telegram that the Public Works Estimates contain no provision for tbe erection of any public buildings in this town. The votes previously passed but unexpended for a court-house and post-office are not renewed, while similjtr votes in Timaru .md Invercargill again figure on the Estimates. Were the same rule applied to all towns we would not, in the present state of the

public finances, raise any complaint at the absence of votes for buildings in Oamaru, But when we see other places of iio greater importance still favored with tKe expenditure of public money ih the erection of public buildings, and Bear in mind the fact that in the past those towns .have reaped a harvest of Ministerial favors, while Oamaru iiaa been systematically slighted, we must enter a protest against the perpetration of such a manifest injustice. If the state of the Treasury chest is such that the Colony cannot erect all the public buildings that have become necessary, then the fairest course to adopt would most certainly be to erect those buildings that are most urgently required, and we venture'to say that in neither of the towns upon, which the Ministry propose to bestow their favors do greater necessities for public buildings exist than are to be found in Oamaru. '• Again, Oamaru in the past having received no consideration in the matter of public buildings, has now a prior claim upon the limited sum at the disposal of the Government; and Timaru and Invercargill, having previously enjoyed luxuries while Oamaru has been starved, might .certainly be left to contemplate with pride the architectural adornments they have already secured, apd wait patiently for fuvther favors until funds are again plentiful.
