A FALSE REPORT.

(by telegraph.) Napiee, July 20. Scientific examination of the so-called trold bearing quartz from Te Aute shows that the quartz contains no gold. The metallic appearance was due to refraction of light through the fractured portions of the surface. The appearance misled old gold diggers, and defied microscopic examination, The pressure applied to the fractures disturbed the reflection of light and disclosed-the true character of the appearance of the stone, which was of the jasper family.
