♦ AUCTION KER REPORTS. Messrs. Connell and Clowja report the sale by auction to-day, on account of Major Evans", of the following properties : Sections 1, 4, and part of 2. block 17 Oamaru District, containing "206 a. 2r. being the homestead portion of the Cloon Eavin farm, to Mr. J. T. Evans (price, LI 212 a. 6d. per acre); and part of section 2, same block, containing 112 a. (price, LlO per acre), to Messrs. Thos. and W. Henderson, of Cave Valley. , ~ Mr. Richard Leigh reports having held a sale to-day, at the Swan Yards, of ft spring dray, horse, harness, etc.; the dray, horse, and harness realised L 35, and lamps, covers, and sundry other items obtained full rates. Also, at hi 3 mart, at 1 o'clock, a lot of furniture, crockery, glassware, fancy goods, etc. The attendance was only moderate, find the bidding slack, most of the lots submitted found purchasers at prices slightly lower than last sales.

Mr. Henry Macintosh reports for the tpolt ending 17th July, as follows: Business in the labor market has very much improved during the week. The business he ing general, nnmbers of all classes met with engagements, snd numbers of orders were not filled up. There is a great scarcity of hotel hands, nurse girls, and light servants. Rates of wages are as follow: Married couples, L7O to Lis ; ploughmen, 20s to 9*?* tid ; shepherds, '55 to L 65 ; rouse-abouts, 15s ; good general servants for town or country, L3O to L 36 ; ordinary, L 25 to L3O; for hotels, L 36 to L4O; female cooks, 203 to 25s ; housemaidß and laundresses, 15s to 17s ; waitresses, 12s to 15s ; nurse girls, 7s to 10s; lads, 10s to 15s; waiters, 20s to 30s ; barmaids, 25s to 30s ; barmen, 30s to 35s ; billiard markers, 20s to 255; men cooks 20s to 40s ; gardeners, 30s to 403 ; grooms, 20s to 25s ; housekeepers, lAO to LSO. Trades—Blacksmiths, 12s to 14s per day ; carpenters, 10- to 12s ; shopmen, L2 10s to L 3 10s per week;dressmakers, 20s to 60s, etc.
