THE HAWKE'S BAY GOLD DISCOVERY.
■ •: (BY TELEGRAPH.) 'if Napier, July 16. The party specially seleoted to visit and report upon the Mohaka quartz reef, returned to-day, and brought back a quarter of a ton of stone. This was lodged in the Bank of New Zealand for transmission to Auckland for crushing and testing. The party reports that quartz reefs undoubtedly have been discovered of an aurifereus character, but that the gold is extremely fine and must be treated as such, requiring a large capital and perseverance.
