[FEOM OtJB QWS CORRESPONDENT.] PALMERSTON. June 9. A public meeting ; was held last evening to protest against the property tax. About 100 were- present. A motion was carried that it should be repealed and the following substituted Educational fees; the sugar, tea, and beer taxes reimposed ; and all subsidies to local bodies abolished. A petition embodying .the above was adopted for presentation to the (Joyeynment, but at the close of the meeting only some 25 signatures were appended, showing that the people here are not over anxious in the matter.
