NORTH OTAGO COURSING CLUB.

President—Mr. D, Sutherland; .VicePresidents—Messrs. G-. S. Lintott and A. Hedley ; Marshal, Mr. T. Brydone ; Committee —Messrs. J. Holmes and J.' M'Pherson; Flag Steward—Mr. A. Thomson ; Judge—Mr; Wise ; Slipper —Mr. Turner; Hon. Secretary—Mr. W. H. Ronayne.

FIRST DAY. Yesterday's coursing requires but few words of. comment in addition to our remarks in last night's issue. Throughout the afternoon rain fell without intermission, and the sport was very slow and interesting. Miles of country wero travelled over by enthusiastic sportsmen in search of hares, but, when they were found, the ground was as a rule so uneven that little or nothing could be seen of the sport. Resuming our remarks upon the running at the point at which they.broke off last night, we have to state that, after a considerable, delay, one of the grandest courses of the day took place between Mr, Lintott's Bannookburn and Mr. A. Thomson's Te Whiti. A fine strong hare was started, and the longest course of the day was the result. Te Whiti showed the greatest speed, and, taking advantage of a favorable turn, gat up to the hare, and held possession for n long distance. Bannockburn then got in for a few seconds, and scored a few points, but after that the Maori Prophet took possession, and held it until the two went out of sight. Te Whiti was declared the winner. Very little could be Seen by out reporter of the course between ■ Mr, Morton's Sam Slick and Mr. A, Thorn* son's Lockwood, but the judge's deoiaion was in favor of the latter* who got quickly up to the hare, and never let Slick in. Mr, M'Danaldte Cineraria quickly disposed of Mr. A. Thomson's £angi. Messtra, M'Auly Brothers* Miranda and Mr, Williams' Typo followed with an undeoided course, and then Mr. Kett's Strathmore and Mr. Johnston's Smut were put into the slips. For fully an hour were these dogs kept in the slips and taken over h\U and through dale in search of ft When one was obtained the d.ogs failed to get a good °f PH 33 * which oonaequenUy got away, and an undecided oourse was the result. Mr. Boyd Thomson's Shamrock and Mr. Otterson's Banshee, the last pair on the card, Were shortly afterwards sent \n pyrau.it o$ ty small hare, wa 3 not to be denied, and quickly go,t o,u even ter«w with the leader, qnlyi to bo knocked out of tli,e hunt by <?.omwg collision with Shamrock, Bireotly after this Shamrock despatched the hare, and won the course. A return was then made for town. TO-DAY i" COURSING, The North Qtago Coursing Club, was favored with much better weather for covirsing to-:dfvy than it was treated to yesterday, Still it was not all that could be desired. A few showers of rain fell early in the morning, and these, added to the heavy rain of last night, made the ground wet and slippery. In addition to this discomfiture there wa3 a oold wind, the effects of which were but little lessened by the mild sunshine. A change of venue was made, OneTree Paddock, on the Totara estate* being selected as the tyysting ground. Operations were commenced by running of the two undecided courses to complete the first round of the Derby Stakes. Miranda

and Typo were the first to try conclusions, Miranda had all the best of a flhoqpt flutter, Mr. Williams' dqg being «OfQ footed, s,nd consequently slow in moving, Then followed a good course between Strathmore and smut. The former was the quickest to move, and led up to the hare some lengths in advance of Smut, taking several points out of pussy before Smut, favored by the hare, got in, Ths hare then took to the rooks on the hill, and the course virtually over, Strathmore being declared the winner of a very fast course. A start was then made with ties, Rhododendron and MaQQaroni heing the first pair tq meet, The pair were at once despatched, but the hare took through a fence, and the judge being unable to follow, the course was undecided. Phlox Drummondii and Encore followed with ano course. The hare took amongst some scrub, and encore became for a time. Phlox followed in pursuit of the hare up wd was joined shortly afterwards by Enoora, but a deep ditch and bog intervened and the judge was unable to follow. The dogs had; a

long gruelling run before being picked up, Mr. Grant's slut having the wor»t of th§ useless hunt. Carnation Hfld l(i%' H very good course, Ijifty led up tbi the hare, turned, scoring 'several points, eventually 1 scoring her seoond win. Rhododendron and Maocaroni had a fine course. Rhodo« dendron led up to the hare and sopred point or two before MftCQWn}, fayored by the hare, got in and toofc a, or. twQ out of puss. Then followed a pretty in-, and-out course," until the hare took to, the hill,, closely followed by Rhododendron, who scored ft good win. Phlox JDrummondii and Enoore then'ran off their undecided course, the former having all

the best of the work, and winning without any great difficulty. A§te» had an easy VKjtwy Qve? Te Wh'iti. Botl\ dogs up to tfye hare well together, but Aster, going up the rise shewed the greatest foot, and quickly killing obtained the victory. Qineraryv did nearly all the work in a husy course with Lock wood, working his hare very prettily Before Lock wood got in, and scored the fifth victory in thq first ties for Mr. M'Donald of Tofco* mairiro. After a short adjournment, ft chang'e was njade in the scene of opera-* tions, llr. Perry's paddock being selected, Miranda and S,trathmore re«opened proi codings with a no course, the latter being. unsighted, After again moving to another

mddock Miranda and Strathmore had "toe and pretty contae, resulting in victory for the former who did most of lot of work. Shamrock then ran a bye god the second ties for the Derby wer concluded.
