CHESS.

TO THE EDITOR OF THE OAMART7 MAIL.' Sir,—Some months ago a.Chess:Club was formed in Oamaru, but it has now virtually ceased to exist. Chess is an interesting and scientific game, and it is a thousand times to be regretted that the Club should have collapsed. Now that the winter evenings have commenced, and that several good chess players have recently come to reside in this town, I, for one, should be glad to see this interesting game/revived. Anything that will divert, our young men from spending their evenings at the billiard tables and other questionable resorts, should .be adopted. The character of many a youth might be preserved by this means. I invite any ruggestion that may be made on this subject by chess players.—l am, &c., Chessboard.
