There, were three false starts before the field was : finally despatched. Balmoral cutjout the running, with Hailstorm . and Libeller close to him. Vampire headed the ruck. At a mile from the start Ottawa and Resolution worked their way to the front, and momentarily looked dangerous, but ultimately died away. Hornby and Betrayer waited about fourth and fifth until twomiles had been covered, when they cameaway and entered the straight with Soukar in close company. About half a dozem others, all apparently in it whip and spur, went to work. Derritt then raised up Betrayer once, and stalling off, determined to rush by Hornby, who came along gallantly, under the whip. Betrayer won a most exciting race by a head. Soukar was half a length behind Hornby ; Hippofourth, Libeller fifth. The official time was 4min. 13^seo A> but Mr. Redwood's time was 4min. lOsecs. MAIDEN PLATE.
