SWIMMING MATCHES.
The series of swimming matches arranged to take place at the Public Baths yesterday attracted a large attendance of' the public, while nearly every eveiit brought forth a large number of eqm~ petitors, and resulted in close contests. The 99 yards race for men did not bring.together sufficient competitors to make-a:' race, and an alteration was made inj the programme. Mr. Familton acted as starter, and other directors of the Ilaths Company performed the duties of The following is a brief report of ; the events : ; - -

There were five entries, but Wansbrough was the only other competitor. A hurry-scurry , was , arranged to take place at the ■ close of the regular programme, but owing to the lateness' of the hour, . the .racewas postponed :until, 5 o'clock this evening. It is,, we believe, contemplated fo- arrange a second series of matches to take place : shortly.
