Cowden Lad's sire was Oid Scotchman, the property of Mr. John. Kerr, of Morton; dam, Mr. Eastin's (of Cowden) young prize : mare Jean, by Prince Royal; grand - dam, Blossom, by Beulomontl (imported). Renfrew Jock's sire is the well-known horse Renfrew (imported l , who gained two first prizes when one year old, two first when two ytars old, and when three years lis competed at the Renfrewshire Exhibition of stallions, held at Paisloy, against all horses, and was awarded the Duke of Hamilton's premium of 30 so vs. He gained ill-; champion cap at Ballarat on 13th September, 1862, and has beaten every horse that has competed against hire. He is perfectly qniet, dociie, and tractable. His dam is by Lord Clyde, imported from Scotland, and a glance at his career will he conclusive proof that no better was ever bred in Scotland.. He was afterwards hougnt by the late David Nosbitt, and taken to Victoria, where his stock have taken prizes as follows :—First and second prize colts and first and second prize fihics at Sandhurst, first a.nd second prize colts and first and third prize fillies at Kyueton, and fiist prize colt and filly at the Grand Natior.a'. Melbourne, and the colt was sold on the ground for 100 guineas. Dainty Davie's sire—Moffat's Conqueror (imported from Scotland)— had also a distinguished career, both at Home and in the Colonies. When two years oid he gained prizes at Glasgow, Stirling, Kirkintulloeh, and Dumbarton ; when three years old from among 60 hordes he wa;< selected for a £4O premium. YOUNG JACK'S THE L&D was foaled the stil November, IS7-3. He is a dark bay, stands 17 hands high, with plenty of boae and nuissle. He has a good temper, is a willing and able worker, and has proved himself a sure foal-getter in Victoria. He took second prize as a yeailing at the Smeaton .Agricultural Society's Show, in 1870'. The same year he took the second prize at the Kya-toa Agricultural Show, and first prize as a yearling, and also Prog -ny Stakes of Jack's the Lad—a silver cup valued £7 10s, taking it two years iu succetsion at the Glenlyon, Franklyn, and Daylesford Agricultural L-'-how, in March, 1577. As a 2-year-old, lie took first ; rizs at the Be;;digo Agricultural Show, 1877 ; also the same year, he took first-class certificate of merit; .at the Nation:-1 Agricultural Show of Victoria, at Melbourne, and the same year secoud prize at the Smeaton Agricultural Sliosv, and second prize as. a. 2-ycae-old at'the Gletdyon, Frankly n, and Dalesford Agricultural Show, 1878. He was .bred; by Joseph Rosendale, E-.q., Glenlyon. Sire, Jack's the Lad (imported), bred by Mr. Alian, of the Inches, near-Eaglesham, by Mr. Moore's grand horse Lofty, which horse took a great many first prizes at Glasgow, Inverness, and other places, out of Mr. Allan's grand mare Flower, which took prizes ail" over Scotland. Jack's the Lad was imported iu 1572, and obtaiued the first prize and first-class certificate of merit at Castlemaine ; and since he has obtaine d :ven first prizes and four second, and also the third pr.ze at the Grand National Shov.-, Smoaion, in 1573, and the second prize at the Grand National Sh >w, Sandhurst, in 1576, and the champion prize for 1 lie bast animal in the yard, at Smeatoo, in 1875.
