Notwithstading the open hostility of the tribes preventing the marching of the troops previously, General Gough started from Gundamak for Cabul on the 17th. He encountered no opposition, marched all day, and telegraphed on the 18th that he had met with no serious opposition. Norman, with a strong force, is co-opera-ting with Gough in maintaining communication. DIRECT AUSTRALIAN NEWS. (KECTER'steleokam. PER PRESS ASSOCIATION'.) Sydney, December 21. .Arrived —Torres Straits mail, at Cooktown. The barque Adelphi has been wrecked at Port Hackling. The crew were all saved. She was insured for L2OOO in the New Zealand Insurance Company. Two Chinamen were discovered in a suburb of Sydney, afflicted with leprosy. One was poisoned—supposed to have committed suicide ; the other was taken away late on Saturday night to La Perouse, close to the landing place of the New Zealand Cable, and put in a tent near the beach, a favorite picnic ground. Great indignation is manifested by the Cable and Custom-house people, and a strong remonstrance has been sent to the Premier. The case will possibly affect telegraphic communication with New Zealand, and it is hoped the New Zealand Government will remonstrate with Sydney. Great alarm is felt, a3 the disease is in a most loathsome form. December 22. The winner of tke female pedestrian contest walked 70 miJe3 in 24 hours.
