THE LATE FIRE.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE OAJAjJJIT MAIE, Sik, —In your issue of the 6th insfc I noticed a letter signed "Nunquam Dormio," which one of my literary friends tells me means never asleep. Now, Sir, I think this correspondent, -whoever he may be, must have been asleep when writing this scurrilous and, I think I may add, malicious letter. His brains must have been muddled a " wee" bit, or else he never would have mixed up his letter with " shells, paint, and partitions" as he did. He next talks of "a good lively bombshell bursting in our midst being preferable to Mr. Keenan, and his establishment settling in our neighborhood." Well, I think if we had such a thing " Nunquam Dormio " would be the first to run away, because I can judge by his writings that he is a coward, as he tries to stab in the dark. Bat enough of this. I wish to tell him what he does not seem to know, and it ia strange, too, that a wide awake gentleman like him should not know these little matters. Mr. Keenan Has had no board-ing-house for the last twelve months; and also, when Mr. Keenan was burnt out before, and left homeless and uninsured, the fire did not start in Keenan's place, as nearly every person in Oamaru knows, except "Nunquam Dormio." Now, Mr. Editor, with your permission, I wish to tell Mr. " Nunquam Dormio" that his assertions are false. Of course, I cannot liurt his feelings, as no person except yourself knows, who he Is. I wish ho would take off the mask, in order that I might know him. He is a dangerous oustomer in any vicinity, as he is like)* to. explode some more of his foul gag* iSut if he would come out in public, I am sure he would get a, billet aa insurance agent, and then be would hava an opportunity of mining himself up among the paint, partitions, and shells* I know he has th? ambition, and, of course, talent of getting up in the world,, so I wiU help to make him a paper kite. In conclusion, I wish to tell "Nunquam Dormio" to have a sleep, before heexamines the next " shell," and it will bo a very poor one if it has not more in it than there is in his (t empty nut." I am, &c., Robert Keenan Oamaru, November 7, 1879.
