(PEP. PKEH-S ASSOCIATION). WELLINGTON. November 5. An inquest was held last night on the hod}- of Kobert Scarle, who died suddenly at the National liotel on Thursday last. After a short consultation, the jury returned with a verdict of death from an overdose of cliloral and the following rider "We find it to be a duty we owe to the public at large to express our condemnation of the recklesa manner in which chloral has been handled and dealt out on the present occasion ; also, we would urge upon the Government the necessity of putting such restrictions upon the trade that shall prevent a recurrence of such deplorable consequences in future." The ship Wairca, from London, is off tho Heads. She brings 209 passengers, but no Government immigrants. DUNEDIN. November 4. The National Industrial Association has sent a teb grani to Mr. I£. J. C. Stevens, M.H.R. for Christchurch, suggesting that sugar be admitted free of duty ; tea, Gd per lb ; coffee, 4d to Cd ; wines other than Australian, 6d per gallon ; sparkling wine 3, 3s; spirits, 153 per proof gallon ; jewellery and plate, 25 per cent, (id ralvrem ; cigars, 7s 6d per lb ; tobacco, 3s ; manufactured tobacco, 2s lid. TI.MARU. November 4. The first vessel was brought alongside the Timaru breakwater this mnrnint:, where she wa3 unloaded and ballasted, and hauled out again by 4 p.m. A great crowd witnessed the event. A formal ceremony in honor of the successful completion of the first section of the breakwater will take place oil Friday next, when a urand i»anq>iet will be held on the breakwater, and a gen.-rai holiday will be observed. Cormorant, who was thrown from his horse, is in a critical condition. His arm and leg arc broken, and his skull fractured.
