When a 3-ytar old, Bedouin beat a good field of 7 horses, including Waterwitch, Queen Bee, Kettledrum, and Lady of the Lake—distance, 1A- mile. He also won the Clutha Ferry Handicap, beating Lady Elleu four others—distance, 24 miles. He ran second to Backbiter for the Lawrence Town Plate, in IS7I ; and won the Publicans' Purse at Waiwera—distance, 2 miles. His latest performance was winning the Cromwell Spring Haudicap (distance, H mile), easily, and he has also been victorious in many other events. BEDOUIN is brother to the well-known colt Saladiu, the winner of many big events at all distances, from 1 mile to 3, in good company. Sir Hercules was sire of Coronation, Faugh-a-ballagh, Irish .Birdcatcher, Warlock, Daniel O'Rourke, Knight of St. fJeorge, and Songstress—all Derby and St. Leger wium rs in i.ngland. His grandson was sire of Stookwell, and grandsire of Blair Athol, Colleen, St. Albans, The Marquie, and Whalebone— embracing the representative of the purest and moat successful racing strain of the present day.
