THE ADVANTAGES OF THE RAILWAYS IN OAMARU.
TO THE EDITOR OF TEE OAMARU MAIL. Sin,—l was to-day favored with an inspection of a curiosity in the shape of a very fornridableJooking document from the Railway Department, Oamaru. Trulj' their laws are hot as those of the Medes and Persians were—unalterable ; but they are altered and sought to be amended—but bungled instead —almost every hour of the day. This document sets forth that the receiver—and I should imagine it would apply to all business men who are unfortunate enough to have their premises close to a, aiding—will have to go down to the station, money in hand, sometimes several times each day, and pay for what he expects to arrive, and should he require it to be put on any of the sidings in town he must re-consign it to the particular siding, and likewise pay a further sum of Gs per truck for allowing the authorities to run it out of their way with a view of having it discharged. When a truck comes some 20 or 30 miles, on an average, to Oamaru, it is something monstrous to charge this second rate for an extra few hundred yards within the town to which it is consigned. Hoping that this injustice will only have to be pointed out to be amended, —I am, &c., Civis.
