At the Supreme Court Abraham Walmsley, for housebreaking, was sentenced to six months imprisonment ; and Cornelius Fisher, for sheep-stealing, was acquitted. Tlie charge of riot and forcible entry of natives on land at Gisborne was postponed until Monday, owing to the absence of the counsel for the defence. The City of New York, with' the outward London mails of the lltli, left San Francisco 011 the 20th September ult., the contract date. The Zealandia, with the homeward New Zealand mails of the IGth September, arrived at San Francisco on the Bth inst., one day in advance of due date. October 11. The Hon. Randall Johnston has declined the nomination for the Mayoralty. The cable-repairing steamer Agnes left Sydney for Wellington yesterday, and will arrive in about seven days, when she •will immediately proceed to pick up the Cook's Straits cable, of which two wires have been carried away. The immigrationer officer has received CO nominations for transmission Home by the outgoing mail. An oilskin found 011 the beach leaves no doubt that the fishermen who have been missing since Saturday have been drowned. At a public meeting last night it was resolved that an Association for the protection of local industries be formed in this city. NEW PLYMOUTH. October 11. A stonemason residing in New Plymouth has been engaged by the natives at Parihaka to build an oven for the purpose of baking bread to be supplied to the visitors who attend the monthly meetings there. . Evans, who was committed for trial for shooting his wife when intoxicated, was admitted to bail to-day. DUNEDIN. October 10. The Governor has consented to become patron of the Ofcago Agricultural Association. AUCKLAND. October 11. At the R.M. Court at the Thames a case was adjourned in which a Maori is the defendant owing to the impossibility to serve a summons in a disturbed district. TIMAKU. October 10. The Harbor Board resolved to-day to call for tenders for an additional 350 feet of the breakwater in solid work. It now extends about 470 feet. The tender of Findlay and Co., of Dunedin, for 1000 tons of cement haa been accepted at L 4 15s 4d per ton. ASTIBu 11TOX. October 10.
