The usual fortnightly meeting of the Harbor Board will take place to-morrow. The Kakanai Road Board held their usual monthly meeting yesterday. Present— Messrs. Gilchrist (in the chair), Elder, Meek, Collis, Manning, Hedley, Gemmcll, Booth, M'Donald, and Oliver (Engineer). The Secretary to the Oamaru Stone Company wrote drawing the attention of the Board to the impassable state of the road to Totara siding. It was resolved that the company be wri tteii to to the effect that if they were prepared to part with the leasehold interest in the small portion necessary to complete the road, the Board would favorably entertain the application, the owners of the reserve having agreed to part with the freehold interest for L 5. It was resolved to levy a rate of Od in the £ for the current year ; also to invite applications for the office of valuer for the ensuing year. It was resolved that the deposits on contracts of LIOO and upwards bo reduced from 10 per cent, to o per cent. The following tenders were accepted : —Contract No. 00, Thos. Wright, L954s Sd ; Contract No. 61, Thos. Wright, LIOS Os Od. Accounts amounting to L3S3 12s 3d were passed for payment, and the Board adjourned.
At the Resident Magistrate's Court today, before T. W. Parker, Esq., R.M., Jane Halketli was charged on tho information of one Bridget Curran with using insulting language towards her at Reidston. Mr. O'Meagher appeared for plaintiff, and Mr. Newton for the defendant. Both parties are neighbors residing at Eeidson. The evidence given was of a very conflicting nature, and his Worship dismissed the case. A similar charge brought by plaintiff against John Halketh was withdrawn. Tiie usual fortnightly meeting of the Municipal Council will be held this evening, when Councillors Roberts, Smith, and Otterson will bring up their report on the Waterworks. We to-day inspected the Clydesdale stallion Sir James, which has been imported from Scotland by Mr. Trestrail. He is a beautiful bright bay horse, with plenty of bone and hair, grand action, and of good nature and appearance. He is by that justly celebrated stallion Prince of Wales, the property of Lawrence Drew, Esq., of Mcrryton, and whose fame as a sire has gained a worldwide reputation. We suppose that our readers will have an opportunity of inspecting liim at to-morrow's show. The following is the classification of the immigrants ex Invercargill ; —Two families, including four children, one widower with two children, two married couples, ten domestic servants, and eighteen single men ( agri cult ural lab or crs). The Hewett Family promise to give one of the entertainments, for which they have obtained such kmtoi in the Canterbury papers, at the Volunteer Hall to-night. The monthly meeting of the Oamaru Branch of tho Education.';! Institute cf Otago will be held on Saturday next :>t ] o'clock p.m., when a paper will be read on Standard 111., History.
