Prices were firm, and there is an active demand. The following vessels have arrived from Lvttelton :—Coriolanus, sailed June 3; C'rofield, sailed June o. Bomuvv, September 1". The mutineers at Cabul acted, and are still acting, without a leader. They are endeavoring to incite the tribes to attack General Roberts' flank at Stuturgerdun, which was re-occupied on the receipt of tiie news of the massacre. No hostile movement has as yet taken place. A letter from the Ameer to the Viceroy, written subsequent to the massacre, declares his sincere friendship. There being conflicting accounts as to his sincerity and attitude, the Indian Government were somewhat distrustful of the sincerity of his protestation. General Roberts lias received instructions to ask him to prove his friendship in a practical manner. The frontier is perfectly quiet, and there are no hostile sh/iis. Perfect tranquility prevails at Candahar. SllAN'c.llAT, August 15. There has been a most destructive lire, extending throughout eleven streets ; 9!)1 houses were completely destroyed. Singapore, August 9. Arrived —Hengist, ship, from Newcastle. August 11. Arrived —Jubilee, ship, from Sydney. Maxilla. July 20. Arrived—Hope, barque, from Newcastle. July 25. Arrived—Dundonald, ship, from Sydnev.
Galle, August 4. Arrived Southwick, barque, from Newcastle. Batavia, Sept. 10. Arrived —The Philipine, barque, from Hong Kong to Melbourne, put in here having been ashore on Tokata Reef, Bali Straits. After jettisoning thirty tons of cargo, she was got off without assistance, and then came here to ascertain what damage she had received. DIRECT AUSTRALIAN NEWS. The Exhibition buildings are completed. The opening ceremony takes place on Wednesday, and promises to be a grand spectacle. Melbourne, September 15. The Government have signed a convention with the P. and (). Company, providing for the discontinuance of the Southampton mails. | It is intended to prosecute the directors and manager of the Provincial and Suburban Bank for conspiracy. I
