TO THE EDITOR OF THE OAMARU MAIL.

Sxk, —In face rf the important issues now pending in the Supreme Court in the cases " associated sufferers" by the late fire in the Waimate bush versus M. Studholme, would it not be judicious fee the Relief Committee to publish a ba ancesheet, detailing the amount of money collected for the relief of the sufferers and how it was applied? Report has it in Waimate that all cheques before being negotiable had to be signed by Messrs. John Manchester and L. Price, and that they were the principal parties relieved by it, in the shape of many bad and doubtful accounts being " squared " by the passing of the cheques throug'i their hands. As all inquiries through tl a Press or otherwise on the subject have been ignored, it would be well iii the future for persons before subscribing for the relief of suffering humanity in Waimate to i assure themselves that the relief takes a more tangible form than clearing off the old scores at the truck shop. Should the Cpmmittee deem it unnecessary to take any further action in the matter the secretary should in self-defence throw some light on the subject, as, should the copies of this letter, sent to the Timaru, Oamaru, and Waimate papers, have no effect, it will be sent to every paper between Amberley and the Bluff.—l am, &c., A Subscriber. Waimate, September 2.
