AUCTIONEER'S REPORT. Mr. T. 11. Brown reports hotding a sale of store cattle at Richards' Yards, yesterday. The attendance was poor, and the bidding All tots were passed in, bat were afterwards disposed of in one lot privately. THE LABOR MARKET. Mr. H. Mackintosh reports for the week ending August 23rd. as follows The only improvement in the tabor market this week is an increased demand for female servants, and although we have had some of the recent importations they do not seem to give satisfaction, not being of the right class. The want of thorough goal house servants is very much felt in Oamaru. In meet, although, the times are bad, and business people and mechanics feel it. wo have not the number of idle men walking about our streets that we had some time ago, and if ■wa get this toan soon things will come back into their old groove again. [BY TEtKWRAPtt.J August 22. Business this week shows a slight improvement. due to the spelt of fine weather. There have been unusually heavy shipments of produce to the Islands. Trade sates have passed off more satisfactorily, and upon the whole the tune of things in general is better. Breadstuff's are offered freely, and the best Oamaru and southern Hour can be purchased at Lt2; second brand. LtO 10s to Lt 1 : Adelaide, 300 tons to hand, is offered at Li t 5s to Lt4 tOa ; oats remain the same—23 7d to 2s tOd, and for seed. 2S 3d to 2s 6d. Maize overstocked—Fijian. 3s to 3a 2d|: Sydney. :>» 7d: and Catifornian, in smalt tots, at 'ls. Potatoes continue to advance, and holders ask for parcels LS to LS ss.
