RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

THIS DAl.^' (Before T. W. Parker, Esq., R.M.) SLY GEOG CASES. Kate Grant was charged, with having, on the 7th August, sold five glasses ox brandy to Robert Henny ancl Robert Dunbar, contrary to the Licensing Ordinance, she not being duly licensed to sell spirituous liquors; also, with having, on the 10th August, sold a bottle of beer to the same parties, contrary to the said ordinance. Mr. O'Meagher appeared for the prosecution, and accused, who was undefended, pleaded not guilty on the first charge, which was then gone into. The evidence of Robert Henry and Robert Dunbar was to -the effect that Henry, on the day named, with Dunbar, met defendant outside her house, and asked her if she would have a "wet." Defendant replied that she had some liquor in the house. They went into the house, where were a woman and a young man. Henry called for brandy, and a bottle was produced by defendant. The five persons in the room each had a drink from the bottle. Henry paid defendant 5s in two half-crowns. Defendant did not call any evidence for the defence, and was fined Llo. On the second charge defendant pleaded guilty, and was again fined Lls. OTHER CASES. The following cases of sly grog-selling, principally defended by Mr. Newton, were adjourned until to-morrow morning :—lsabella Kenny (selling), Michael Kenny (permitting to be sold), Alexander Gordon (two charges of permitting), John Lawson(selling), Rachel Shaw (two charges of selling), William Shaw (two charges of permitting), Lucy Davis, alias Powell (permitting to be sold), Polly Sullivan (selling). DRUNK AND DISORDERLY. Sarah O'Connor was fined 20s, with the alternative of four days imprisonment, for being drunk and disorderly.
