FIJIAN NEWS.
[BY TELEGRAPH.] Auckland, August 6. By the arrival of the Energy, Levuka papers have come to hand to the 16th inst. The recent disturbances in Malawa Bay amongst the natives arose through the chief of one town directing his followers to plant taro on land belonging to another town. The party who felt themselves aggrieved proceeded to pull up the taro planted, and while doing so were attacked by their opponents. A sort of free fight ensued, and one man was killed by two blows from a club, and another seriously injured. The chiefs of the two towns are more to blame than their followers, who obeyed orders. All the parties concerned have been taken into custody.
