NORTH OTAGO COURSING CLUB.

The finish of yesterday's coursing may be briefly be told. Queen Bee, a line young slut by Balchristie, out of Glare, defeated Heferee in running off' their first ties. Juliet then rail a bye, and an adjournment then to place until to-day. The sport was somewhat slow, hares being the reverse of plentiful.

TO-DAY'S COURSING

Shortly after 11 o'clock this morning a commencement was made to run oif "the second ties for the President's Cup. A very limited number of persons were present, and only a couple of horsemen were allowed on the ground. The thousaiulacre paddock on Totara Estate was the trysting place, and hares were plentiful. Mr. T. Y. Duncan deserves credit for the manner in which the meeting was carried o,ut, and the slipper (Mr. Turner) also deserves praise, not one single fault being found with his slipping. But the same cannot be said for the judge, many complaints having been made during the meeting, especially with reference to the courses to-day between Hock and Gazelle, everj'one on tho ground stating that the former had won, and .appeared to be perfectly surprised when the flag went up against him. Hock and Gazelle were the first pair in the slips, and ran an undecided course, both dogs doing some splendid work, our opinion being decidedly in, favor of Hock. Gyp and Juliet were tho next pair, and had a long course, resulting in favor of Gyp. although Juliet ran a good dog, and gave Gyp a clean go by, but the latter succeeded in scoring the most points. Queen Bee ran a bye. Hock and Gazelle were then put in the slips to run their undecided course, considerable interest being taken by those present as to the result. A capital start was made, Hock leading and working splendidly, Gazelle hardly scoring a point, while Hock scored point after point. The hare took across the road, and round a hill, and very little more of the course could be seen, but the judge decided in favor of Gazelle, a most unjust decision we think, and it was also the opinion of almost every person on the ground. The following are the complete results : president's ccp, For dogs (all ages), L 5, the bona fide, property of members of the Club. Winner, a cup, value 20 guineas, the gift of the President, E. Menlove, Esq., and LSO; runner-up, L3O; third and fourth dogs, Lls each ; fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth dogs, L 6 each ; eight winners of one course, L 3 each. [As tho stake did not fill up, the prizes will be reduced pro

Gyp beat Juliet Queen Bee ran a bye Gazelle beat Hock.

The three clogs left in the stake—Gyp, Queen Bee, and Gazelle—belong to Mr. Surnam, and therefore it was unnecessary to run it off. We might meution that- Mr. Surnam won the President's Cup last year. Some private courses tools place, but the only one of interest was a match between Kathleen and Verbena for L 5 aside. A good deal of betting took place on the event, Verbena having the most fanciers. • After a long, hard course, during which these two pretty sluts showed some good work, Kathleen was declared the winner.
