ORIGINAL CORRESPONDENCE.
I'O THE EDITOR OF THE OAMAEU MAIL. Sir, —On reading the Evexing Maix. last night I found that you had a good deal to say about thd north ami south ends of the town. I think ratepayers in the centre of the town should be able to decide between them, for if the two parries should come to blows, it will bo very awkward to live on the debatable ground. On consulting my map of the town, I find that the centro of the town from north to south is the centre of Wear-street. Now. where the Engineers for the Government propose putting' the station is five chains north of that street ; but the wise men that say they are wrong wish to put it thirty chains to the south of Wear-street. Now, it will take a good deal of talk to convince me ■;hat thirty chains are, less than five. There are still some people who appear to think that Wansbeck-street is the principal street in Oamaru. It was so about sixteen years ago, but the people in Thames-street have got an opinion that it: is not so now.—l am, i\"c., Footrule. I July 15, 1579.
