OTEPOPO ROAD BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the Otepopo Road Board was held on Friday last. Present—Messrs. Anderson (Chairman), Henderson (Treasurer), Falconer, Diehl. A. Marshall, G. Marshall, old members : Ross and M'Donald, re-elected ; and Kitchen and Watson, new members. On the motion of Mr. Diehl, seconded by Mr. Henderson, the minutes of the previous meeting were adopted as read. A memorial was read from ratepayers in MaSieno, requesting that the road or street leading from the main road to the Public Hall should be formed.

Mr. Kitchen moved that LlO be expended on the street. Mr. Mitchell seconded the motion. Mr. Falconer moved as an amendment that (.he Chelsea and Sydney subdivisions should each contribute L 4 to the Maheno Public Hall Company, on condition that Mr. P. Williams subsidised it £ for £, and that all the money was spent on the said road and nowhere else ; at the same time the Board does not recognise its liability to make streets in private townships. Seconded by Mr. A. Marshall. Eight voted for the amendment, which was declared carried. Mr. Mitchell, Returning Officer for Chelsea, reported that no election liad taken place there. Mr. A. Marshall proposed that Mr.. Duncan Darroch should be appointed to fill the vacancy till next election. Seconded by Mr. Mitchell. Mr. Biehl moved that the Treasurer and Clerk be re-elected. The following tenders were opened : Contract 57. —Jackson and Nicholson, Ll2lßs for earthwork, and L 99 for bridge; Thomas Wright, Lsl lis 4d for earthwork ; Johnston and Sinclair, LIOS 13s Gd for bridge.—Mr. M'DonalA moved that the tender of Jackson and Nicholson bo accepted for both parts ; seconded by Sir. Henderson.

Contract 70. —Eill Bros., Llll 15s; James Johnston, Ll2O 15s 2d; Thomas Wright, LB7 4s 4d; Patrick Corcoran, Lll9 lis 2d; Thomas Flaherty, LlO2 IGs. —On the motion of Mr. Falconer, seconded by Mr. Diehl, the tender of Thomas Wright was accepted. Contract 71. —Hill Bros., L6l 19s 9d ; James Johnston, LG3 6s 2d ; Jackson and Nicholson, L 75 4s 2d ; Thomas Flaherty, L 74 2s 8d ; Thomas Wright, L 54 3s 4d ; C. Olson, LG2 18s si-d.—Mr. Falconer moved and Mr. Diehl seconded, that the tender of Thomas Wright be accepted. tender of Gibson and Martin bo accepted ; seconded by Mr. Diehl. Contract 74.—Patrick Corcoran, LlOl 4s ; Thomas Flaherty, LSO 19s; Hill Bros., L 97 Os 5d ; W. M'Kcnzio, Lll4 7s 101, d. —Oil the motion of Sir. Falconer, seconded by Mr. Diehl, the tender of Thomas Flaherty was accepted.

Contract 75.—Robertson and Bigger. LOO 7s 8d ; Patrick Corcoran, L 75 10s ; James Johnston, L 74 Ids ; Itickard and Flynn, LG6 13s. Mr. A. Marshall moved that the tender of Rickant and Flynn be accepted. Seconded by Mr. Falconer.

Mr. A. Marshall agreed to give the land necessary for the deviation of a road in section 14, block VIII., free of charge,, provided the Board erect the cxVi'a N fencing, the fence to be broadleaf posts and five wires. Mr. Ross moved that the oiier be accepted, and that the Engineer be. instructed to prepare plans and specifications for its information ; likewise for the formation of road between sections 12 and 13-14, block "VIII. Seconded by Mr. M'Donald. Mr. Falconer drew attention to the state of the road between Allday Bay

and Kakanui. The Engineer was directed to prepare plans, &c., for its repair, and the Clerk to'invite tenders at the first opportunity. The Clerk was instructed to ask the County Council for a grant for the Breakneck con :ract. Several accounts were passed for payment, after which the Board adjourned.
