This Company is formed for the purpose of combining the Milling and Baking Trades upon an extensive scale, thereby reducing the cost of bread to the consumer to the lowest possible price, and at the same time securing a sure and ready cash market for the Flour produced at the Company's Mills. The Provisional Directors have arranged for the taking over by the Company, after its incorporation, of—(1.) The interest of J. T. Evans and Co., in the Lands, Buildings, and Premises owned or occupied by them in Oamaru. (2.) The Business and Assets of Messrs. J. T. Evans and Co., Millers and Grain Merchants, Oamaru, for the sum of £7OOO, of which £2500 is payable within six months, and the balance (£4500) in 1800 shares of the Company, with £2 10s paid up. A valuation of the buildings and lands has been made by Mr. Johnston, Architect; of the machinery by Messrs. Jack, Steel, and Hendry ; and of the other assets by Messrs. John Locke and John Church. The amount of £7OOO has been arrived at by deducting the amount of the liabilities from the total of the valuations and by adding the amount of £2OOO on account of goodwill and preliminary expenses of formation of Company, which are to be paid by vendors. The vendors are willing to retain the management of the business for three years, and are willing (in the event of the directors leaving such management to them) to guarantee interest on the paid up capital at the rate of 10 per cent, per annum for that period. The Crown Flour Mills are situated in the centre of Oamaru, and have direct railway communication, thus reducing the cost of carriage to a minimum. The Mills contain five run of mill stones, fitted with the best English and American Dressing Machinery, and from their situation and completeness are undoubtedly the best milling property in New Zealand. They are in fall operation, producing flour which has established a first-class reputation in the chief New Zealand markets. The Mills consist of a substantfal fourstoreyed stone building 120 feet long by 54 feet broad, with engine and boiler house, bran, store, dust, and smut room, coal shed and workshop attached, and provide storage space for 30,000 bags of grain. The Engine, a compound tandem by Messrs. Musgrave and Sons, of Boulton, England, is pronounced by competent judges to be one of the finest in the Colony, and the boiler is fitted with a " Green's Patent Economiscr," effecting a saving of 25 per cent, in fuel. Tim Motive Power and Building are designed for a 10-run mill, enabling the Company, at small expense, to add to the number of stones, &c., as their business increases. Jt is proposed to erect bakehouses at once, and to supply bread in Oamaru, Dunedin, Timaru, and intermediate towns at the lowest possible cash price, thus securing the Company a cash sale for their flour at market rates, and, by saving the baker's profit, reducing bread to a price which cannot fail to prove a great boon to all householders. The Provisional Directors have every condence that the public will support this undertaking, providing, as it does, both a profitable investment for their eaptital, and a reduction in the cost of the most necessary article of daily use.
