(PER press association.) WELLINGTON. June 21. The debris of the Opera House is still smouldering. The Government will next session introduce a Bill to impose a tax of LlO on all Chinese coming into New Zealand, and making the captains of vessels liable for payment of the money. A telegram was forwarded to the Hon. Mr. Stout at Duneclin to-day, intimating that a feeling existed in Wellington that he should not resign his position in the Ministry, and a public meeting will probably be called to urge on him this course on Monday. At the It.M. Court to-day, the Kinross perjury oase was called on again. At the last sitting of the Court an adjournment was granted, in order to obtain a reply from the Speaker of the Legislative Council, as to whether he would allow the Clerk of the Legislative Council to produce documents and give evidence in the case. The reply of the Speaker was to the effect that, having looked up authorities on the subject, he would not be justiiied in granting the permission asked for. On the point whether the appendices to the journals of the House formed part of the journals of the House or not, Mr. Rees said he had looked up a number of authorities, and though he found many were with him, others were against him, and he thought it best, under the circumstances, to withdraw the proceedings, and bring the matter before tfie House of Parliament. The information was accordingly dismissed, and the Clerk of the Court was instructed to retain all documents and exhibits, to be produced when required. AUCKLAND. June 21. Fajr prices were obtained, v WANGANUI. June 23. Mr. Albert Barnes sold by auction the hull of the cutter Annie, now lying at the Heads, for L 175, to Mr. W. G. Bassett, and the cargo of drain pipes, for LlO, to Mr. Benby.
