RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

THIS DAY. (Before T. A. Clowes and S. E. Shrimski, Esqs., JJP's.) LARCENY, Mary Glister, against whom there were two charges of larceny, was sentenced to six weeks' imprisonment on each charge, with hard labor, the sentences to be cumulative. (Before T. W. Parkhr, Esq., R.M.) Mary Glister, on another charge of larceny, was sentenced to six weeks' imprisonment, with hard labor, in Dunedin gaol. DRUNK. AND DISORDERLY. Sarah O'Connor, charged with being drunk and disorderly on the gaol promises, on the 7th inst., was sentenced to pay a line of 405., or 10 days' imprisonment. George Ross, charged with being drunk and disorderly in Tyne-street, on the 7th inst., was fined ss. LAIIUEOT. Alfred Hoskins was charged with stealing one overcoat, one mackintosh, one tablecloth, and one pair of socks, the property of Charles Murphy. A. V. Johns deposed that he received a distress warrant directing him to distrain the goods of Charles Murphy, in the case of Lippert v. Murphy. He seized the goods on the 17th May, at the Oamaru Waterworks. He produced an inventory of the propert}'. The goods did not realise sufficient to satisfiy the claim. The articles produced are not in the inventory, and were not sold. Witness knew the accused, and had placed him in charge of the property after he had seized. Prisoner remained in charge eight days. On the 22nd May witness removed the goods, and prisoner helped to put them on two expresses. On the 2(itii May witness removed accused from charge of the tent. After removing the goods witness left what remained to Mrs. Murphy. Charles Murphy deposed that he was a laborer residing in Oamaru. He knew the accused, and he saw him at his tent on the 19th May, in charge of his property. Witness saw his goods removed by the bailiff, the accused, and others. The articles produced were not included in the inventory, and he recognised the property. He last saw the property in one of the rooms of the tent. Detective Livingstone and witness went to the house of accused on Saturday, and they saw the articles. Accused was present, and he said to witness that he had left some things behind. Accused said he had brought the mackintosh and tablecloth from England. Elizabeth Murphy deposed that she had never authorised any person to take the article away from the tent. John White, assistant bailiff, deposed that he knew the accused. Witness was placed in charge of his premises on Saturday, but had to go to Maheno on that night, and he placed Murphy in charge. On going into the house Murphy x-ecog-nised a pair of socks hanging befose the fire as liis property. Accused was present, and witness asked to be allowed to search his boxes, and the rest of the property was found. Detective Livingstone deposed that he visited the house of accused on Saturday, witness saw Murphy there. He saw the articles produced, in the house, and arrested him on a charge of stealing them. Accused admitted taking the coat, but the other articles he had brought from England with him. This was all the evidence. His Worship remanded the case till tomorrow morning. Another charge of stealing a pistol from George Greenfield, was remanded, the prosecutor not being able to be present. BREACHES OP THE CORPORATION BYE-LAWS. John M'Courlee, for neglecting to have a light on some building material in Deestreet, was fined 10s. James Reed, for allowing one cow to be at large, was fined ss.
