© CHHISTCHURCH. June 2. Frank Lewis is charged with setting fire to his premises in Colombo-street. About eighteen witnesses are to be examined. Two young men were brought before the Resident Magistrate for assaulting two ladies. The latter did not appear. The men said that they merely pushed the ladies, who gave them no time for apology before summoning the police. The defendants are of good character, and were discharged. Edward Buxton was brought up for larrikinism on the Ferry Road. He had evaded a previous summons, and been arrested at Waiau. He was fined Is on each count, and L 7 12s and expenses, LS Is. DUXEDIX. June 2. Ilenry Hirst, as agent for a man in Yorkshire, lays claim to all the land about Tiivcrton. His client alleges that he holds a deed of gift dated three years prior to the purchase made by Mr. Mantell. The Vincent County passed a resolution prohibiting the employment of Chinese oil County contracts. Three districts in the Port Chalmers constituency have been disfranchised through the neglect of clerks to forward proper lists. In one subdivision over ninety names have been struck off.
