OTEPOPO ROAD BOARD.
The monthly meeting of this Board was held yesterday, at which there were present- —Messrs. Anderson (Chairman), Henderson (Treasurer), Falconer, A. Marshall, M'Bonald, Darroch, Thompson, G. Marshall, Ross, Mitchell.and Dielil. ]VIr.-Hrenderspn ; moved that: the minutes of the previous meeting be confirmed, as read; seconded by Mr. Darroch.
The outward correspondence was read and approved. The following letters were read and considered : From Mr. A. Marshall, drawing attention to the state of tlie road leading into the Otepopo River, between sections 13 and 14, block VIII. It was decided that < the Engineer should arrange the matter • with Mr. Marshall. From Mr. A. Sim, asking for a copy of the plan of the road deviation in blocks VII. and "VTII. The Clerk was instructed to reply that the plan is still in the office of Messrs Julius and Balmer, where it can be inspected by any one interested. From Mr. W. Robertson, requesting several repairs on the Woodlands road. The Engineer stated that the grade 011 O'Brien's Hill could not be reduced except at an enormous expense, and that there was nothing to complain of at the other places mentioned, except the bridge, which would be attended to. From Mr. Joseph James, complaining of the steep grade on the road leading past his property. The Engineer stated that the road was a very good one. From Mr. James Johnston, asking an extension of time to finish his contract. Granted. The Engineer's report was submitted and adopted, and Mr. Falcoder moved that the Engineer prepare plans and specifications for the pitched crossing between sections 40 and 53, Black VI., and for the Allday Bay Flat road, and that tenders be invited for these and for contracts 70, 71, and 72, for next meeting. —Seconded by Mr. Darroch. Four applications wore received for the office of Ranger. Mr. M'Donald moved that Alexander Forbes be appointed, seconded by Mr. A. Marshall; Mr. Henderson moved as an amendment that Robert Forbes be appointed, seconded by Mr. Falconer; Mr. Diehl moved as a further amendment thatJGeorge Wilson's offer, with some modification, be accepted, seconded by Mr. Mitchell. Five voted for Mr. Diehl's amendment, three for Mr. Henderson's, and thfee for the motion. Mr, Diehl's was accordingly carried. The following members retire—Mr. M'Donald, from Allday ; Mr. Thompson, from Chelsea; Messrs. Ross and Davidson, from Copmanhurst; and Mi'. Darroch, from Sydney. Mr. Falconer moved that Mr. Henderson be Returning Officer for Sydney, Mr. Mitchell for Chelsea, Mr. Diehl for Copmanhurst, and Mr. A. Marshall for Allday.—Seconded by Mr. Darroch. The Clerk was instructed to advertise that all overdue rates must be paid within one month, and to institute legal proceedings against all defaulters. The Clerk was instructed to consult the Board's solicitor regarding the Bedding Hill rate, and to act according to his advice. Several accounts were passed for payment, and the Board adjourned.
