DUZS'EDIN. May 31. A case presenting very unusual features is sot down for hearing at the Police Court next week. On the 13th inst. a man was married, but discovering the same night that his wife was enclentc, turned her out of the house. A week later she was confined. She now seeks to lv-cover the means of support from the child's father. Motions have been tabled in the City Council for dispensing with the services of the City Health Otticer and completing drainage and permanently disposing of the sewage. The vital statistics for this month are as follow :—Births, 149 ; marriages, 39 ; deaths, 55. There is an increase of GO per cent, on the corresponding month of last year. The Customs revenue for the month is L 21.5.52, showing a decrease of L7BOO as i'. mi'arud with the corresponding month <-f 1878. J. Drumney is the successful tenderer for the Alexandra bridge, the amount being LIG,OOO. fa CHKISTCHURCH. May 31. , Ford and Co. 's sale of Neilson's race horses resulted as follows : —Fishhook, LlioO (bought by Robert Ray) ; Middle11m, L 45 ; Te Whetu, LBO ; the Moose, L3l ; Luna, L 55 ; Ethereal, L 25; Sir 'fat-ton, L 7 10s. The bidding for Horsfall's horses was so bad that they were withdrawn.
