PUKEURI POINT.
(FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.)
The dry weather which we have had for some time has left many people short of water, and the lagoons which stud the Papakaio Plain are fast getting exhausted, so that fanners who have not got wells have to drive their stock a long way for water. The heavy dews which fall during the night moisten the surface of the ground, refresh the grass, and give a slight rise to the water-tanks, but a day's rain would, no doubt, prove very acceptable. Ploughing at present is very severe 011 the horses, on account of the hardness of the ground. The Pukeuri Library Committee met on Monday evening, and placed the first instalment of books in the book-case, numbering over 100 volumes. I understand that LSO was paid over to the Government, and this, with subsidy of £ for £, gives LIOO worth of books, and the present instalment only amounts to about one-fourth of this value, so that when the full value is received there will be about 400 volumes in the library. Tke Wallace Lodge of 1.0. G.T.'s is making steady progress, adding to the number of members almost every meeting night. There are over thirty members on the roll, and if all stick to their colours their influence will be felt in the district.
