DUNEDIN. May 21. A resident at Roxburgh, named Mr. William J. Harris, has received intimation that he has succeeded to a fortune of L(50,000 in cash, besides a valuable estate in one of the eastern counties of England. Macdonald, a butcher, has been committed for trial for fraudulent representation. A stable belonging to Mr. James Curie, Anderson's Bay, was destroyed by fire last night. It was insured in the Standard Company for L2OO. No inquest is to be held on the child found in a water butt at Ravensbourne. The post mortem examination shows that death resulted from natural causes. The mother is believed to be of unsound mind. Some discussion took place at the Waste Lands Board in reference to Nicholl's run at St. Bathan's, 011 which the Commissioners recommended that 5000 acres should be thrown open to application on the deferred payment system and agriculture leasing. The Government has since ordered a survey of 9000 acres, and the Board seemed to think that such a survey meant ruination to the run.
