ORIGINAL CORRESPONDENCE.
THE ADDRESSES TO HIS EXCELLENCY. TO THE EDITOR OF THE OAMARU MAIL. Sir.—As I see that Mr. Murcott commented at the County' Council meeting on the fact that no mention of that body was made ill the Municipal address, whereas at Timaru all the governing bodies were mentioned, permit me to state that, at an early meeting of the Reception Committee, consisting of representatives of the Municipal Council,- the County Council, and the Harbor Board, it was stated that it was proposed to present addresses on behalf of the Municipal and Harbor authorities, and the question was asked of Mr. Martin whether the County Council proposed to take a like course. He intimated that it was not so intended, butsuggested that possibly a joint address might be prepared. This, however, could not be carried out as the Harbor Board address was already in preparation, and the matter dropped. There was certainly no " omission " in the sense suggested by Mr. Murcott,—lam, &c., War. J. Steward, j Chairman Reception Committee.
