FIRE AT OTEPOPO.
fTSQU OVK OWJt CORRKXKINDKM.J On Saturday afternoon at about four o'clock the residence of Mr. N. M'Gillivray jwas burnt down to the ground. Sue i w;is [the rapidity with which the fire spread that not a single article could be sued.
A tablo was taken out, but before it could be removed far enough away it caught fire again, and was consumed. The only reasons that can be given as to the origin of the fire is that two young children, aged four and two respectively, were in the house at the time, and it is suspected tiiat they must have been playing with the fire, or that some burning wood fell ofFthe oven, and so set fire to the place. The proprietor had the greatest difficulty to save the children. The house was insured for Ll5O and the furniture for L 25 in the Victoria and New Zealand Insurance Companies' offices.
