LIVINGSTONE.

(from our own correspondent.) Livingstone, April 21.

The Committee of the Miners' Association held a special meeting 031 Saturday, 19th inst., Mr. Roberts, President, in the chair. Some correspondence being read relative to, the> question of land exchange, it w-as, stated that Messrs. Aitken and Mowat had taken the names of miners whose tailings were trespassing on their property, with a view to giving them formal notice to desist. The Chairman was instructed to write to the Hon. the Minister of Lands, re the Warden's report, land exchange, and in view of Mr. Stout's visit to Oamaru, to request the support of members in regard to the acceptance by the Government of Mr. Aitken'a offer to exchange ; also to oppose Chinese application for rights to Loyg Gully, in order to get endorsed ox% their certificates conditions similar- to those in connection with the Public. Channels Act. The Chairman having written to the County Engineer, suggesting and pointing out the advi\nuages of a deviation in a portion of i&&, Maerewhenua Pass road, now under repair, the Engineer, Mr. Oliver, had visited the district, but was compelled to leave before an interview could be efl'ected. He might, therefore, be expected again shortly. It is gratifying to see the Council so prompt in attending to the wants of these ouiiyiug districts, and it goes to prove S&a.t they only need posting in partieufcars,* and the work will be done.

In connect-icsft w&h the, forthcomingconcert, i\ programme committee was aiul with the usual vote of i thanks the meotiug closed. ; The extension of the Mosquito Race is now being pushed vigorously, which, with a suitable dam, will command many square miles of the field hitherto unworlced. Carrying three OJrG.'swnment heads of water, it will supply about six new claims. The tr<il-4'aees for soma of these are now i'« course of construction, and in. u month will pro.h&biy be in full swing-..

In consequence of Mr. M'Master's unwillingness to exchange land for outlets, it is probable the miners will cut a sludgechannel round the foot of the Pinch» w* even tunnel through it to the river. They appear determined not to. abandon such a rich deposit as that- contained in Long Gully, and doioata the opposition of landholders, hi, the vicinity, seem likely to carry their point, and unearth the sordid metal.

The cold nights and mornings now remind us the winter has fairly set in.j the ranges being covered with snow..
