SALE OF THE TOTARA ESTATE

To-morrow Messrs. Maclean Bros., in conjunction with Messrs. Council and Clowes and other auctioneers, will oiler for sale, at the rooms of Messrs. Conn oil and Clowes, several thousand acres of the Totara Estate. There is no necessity to dilate on the magnificence of this estate. To those who live in or near the district it will be known as one of the most fertile in the Colonies, whilst we might as wall state, for the information of others, that the Island Block, situated within a mile of the Maheno railway station, when leased for the raising of grain crops several years ago, gave evidence of productiveness almost unexampled, even in these parts. That portion called the Totara.. Block has been cut up into sections of from 50 to 300 acres, in order to suit all classes of buyers, and the homestead comprises nearly 900 acres, with dwelling now occupied by Mr. M'Aulcy, farm buildings, plantations, &c. Portions of this block are pregnant with stone of the very finest quality. In every respect the estate is a magnificent one, and will give a good account of itself when settled by industrious agriculturists. We have ascertained that numerous enquiries, from far and near, have been made, with a view to purchasing, and it is probable that the attendance at tomorrow's sale will be large and from all parts of the Colony. It is to be hoped that the reserve put upon this property will be reasonable, and such as is necessitated by the times, and that the banks will, to the best of their ability, assist intending cultivators to acquire areas, provided the prices are not speculative. ! The sale of this estate would be productive of good in many respects, and one of these would be that it would remove an impression that has gone abroad—and not without reason—that land will not sell in these times. Buyers of land are not so numerous now as they were a few months ago, because many people burnt their fingers ; but there are still plenty of people desirous of buying at reasonable prices.
