SPECIAL TELEGRAMS.

[from oun ow:; uoKitEsrowDEU-iS J

CHRISTCHURCH. April 10. In the Supreme Court to-day, Isidore Schwartz was brought up on a charge of arson. Mr. Garrick prosecuted, and Mr. Joynt defended the prisoner. The latter urged that the indictment was bad, as the prisoner was charged with setting fire to goods only, whilst there was no such offence in the Act. Mr. Garrick said he did not draw out the indictment, but lie would be prepared to argue the point. He thought a nolle -prosequi might be entered if the first count was bad. His Honor said this could be done by the Attorney-General. Mr, Lambert, architect, was the first witness called. Mr. Joynt proposed that the Judge, Mr. Lambert, and the jury should go to the premises. His Honor declined at that stage of the proceedings to follow the suggestion.
