It it annonucL-d that until further notice, the steamer Waitaki will make two trips a week to Dunedin, leaving here every Tuesday and Friday. . The only case down for hearing at the Kesident Magistrate's Court this morning was a charge of drunkenness against Charles Stomar, who was cautioned and dischargeu. We last evening announced that Mr Menlove had imported into the district a i magnificent heifer—Butterfly's Flower—from ! the herds of Mr. Gardiner, of \ ictona. Since writing the paragraph containing this information, we have ascertained that Mr Gardiner has been offered, for Butterfly s Flower's sire—Duke of Alvie—3o 0 guineas, which offer was refused. Duke of Alvie re-Haters the extraordinary weight of three tons, whilst his 16 months' old heifer weighs nearly a half-ton. A correspondent writes indignantly about some ladv in black, from Christchureh, who, he states", is going the rounds of the town with a subscription list, endeavoring to obtain money from ladies. According to her statement she is a widow, with eight children, all of whom are provided for while she takes a trip to the Old Country, and is trying to raise sufficient money to pay her iKWHauc. We know but little of the antecedents of the lady, or the merits of the case, but judging from the remarks made bv our correspondent, it would be well for intending donors to make inquiries before carry'"- out their laudable intentions. To say the' least, it seems extraordinary that Oamaru, which has its own charities to support, should be canvassed for the benefit of Christchureh residents.
